Our Lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Škrpjela)

This tiny man-made island in the Bay of Kotor was built in the 15th century around a Virgin Mary icon found by two fishermen. Over the centuries, locals added stones and even old ships to expand it. Today, it features a blue-domed church, a museum, and legends that feel like they stepped straight out of a fairytale.

You can reach the island only by boat, which already makes the visit feel cinematic. Inside the church, you’ll find over 2,000 silver plaques given by sailors who survived storms, and a famous tapestry embroidered with a woman’s hair — a story of love, patience, and waiting.

After exploring the island and soaking in its stories, it’s natural to feel hungry.
Imagine sitting in Perast, looking at the sparkling bay, and enjoying the aromas of local specialties. Montenegro shows another side of its magic here: food as incredible as the view.

Try:

  • Black risotto with cuttlefish and ink — dramatic and delicious

  • Njeguški prosciutto — smoked meat full of character

  • Krempita — a creamy dessert you’ll wish you could take a box home

Tip: Eat slowly and savor the moment — the views and atmosphere are as delightful as the dishes.
